In the woods outside Belfast, Maine, wrapped in textured black steel — one continuous corrugated profile running the whole way around, so the walls carry a ribbed shadow line that shifts with the light. Against bare trees in November it almost disappears. The warm wood shows only where it matters: the soffits overhead, and through the glass.
The plan is a seven-by-seven hot room with a four-foot changing room in front, and a glass door between them instead of a wall you can't see past. Somewhere to hang your coat, and the fire in view the whole time you're doing it.
The heat is wood: a Harvia GreenFlame stove on a black Harvia chimney, black on black up through the roof. GreenFlame is Harvia's long-burn fire chamber — the geometry holds the burn instead of letting it race, so a load of wood works harder before you feed the next one.
And the wood itself is part of the building. The roof carries a deep overhang on one side, and the pile lives underneath it — stacked to the ceiling, dry without a tarp, an arm's reach from the door in the middle of winter. The stove's fuel supply is architecture, not a chore across the yard.
Three large windows bring the forest in. Inside, thermo-aspen on the walls and benches, cedar underfoot.
